There are copious amounts of myths doing the rounds about cosmetic tattooing. And unfortunately, it tarnishes the reputation of all cosmetic tattooist trying to accomplish what they love. We’re not scary and cosmetic tattooing doesn’t have to be scary. I’m here to reassure you about any myths you may have heard along the way.
Common Myths Of Cosmetic Eyebrow Tattooing
Myth 1: It’s Painful
Absolutely not. I myself, use a chemist grade numbing solution that is applied to the area. I even re-apply to the second side before starting the tattoo, just in case the numbing cream has worn off any by the time I start it.
Myth 2: You Have To Shave Your Eyebrows
HA! No. You definitely do NOT have to shave your eyebrows off before getting them cosmetically tattooed. Your natural brow offers me a template as to where your brow usually is, giving a more natural look.
Myth 3: It’s Permanent
Cosmetic tattooing is NOT permanent. You may have heard from your sisters, boyfriends, favourite Uncle’s mistress that it ‘leaves a small trace,’ but that is 100% incorrect. The pigment we use is different to that of a regular tattoo pigment. Our pigment doesn’t contain heavy metals, which is what causes it to be permanent. Cosmetic tattooing is always semi-permanent and will slowly fade.
Myth 4: It Doesn’t Look Natural
Nearly all of my clients admit that their friends don’t realise they have had cosmetic tattooing done. At first yes, it does look tattooed and darker than normal; but once it fades, the strokes make it look as natural as your regular brow.
Myth 5: You’ll Need To Take The Rest Of The Day Off
Similar to a wax, you’ll be able to go back to work after your cosmetic tattoo experience. You may experience a little redness and it may feel a little tender to touch for an hour or two but it won’t affect your working abilities. Although it does take longer than a wax, you’ll be fine to get it done in a (long) lunch break.
There you have it. 5 myths absolutely busted. I’m not sure how or why these myths came about but don’t believe everything you hear.
